About the program & events this year!

Aloha!  This year's program session topics were designed to be thought-provoking and to maximize attendee engagement.  The educational program will dedicate Q&A with expert panels for every session and the very popular WAIS sunrise yoga will be featured daily. Our goal is to create a culture of mutual care with both education and revitalization programs for our Interventional Radiology community. Below are a few new activities scheduled for this year.

Welcome Reception - As we do each year, the WAIS conference opens with a meet and greet welcome reception at sunset.  This is a great opportunity to connect with industry and colleagues, as well as meet new WAIS members. All are invited to gather for this casual networking reception which includes hosted cocktails and light appetizers.  The event is scheduled for 5:15-6:30 pm.

Sunrise Yoga - Clarity, creativity, and peace of mind and body are benefits of a sunrise yoga.  This activity will begin each morning at 6 am (Sunday - Wednesday).  All attendees, exhibitors, faculty and guests are invited to join this activity. Towels will be provided by Wailea Beach Resort or bring your own if you prefer.

Coons Cup Golf Tournament - A WAIS tradition, the annual golf tournament will be held on Monday (1-6 pm) at the iconic Wailea Golf Club.  Awards for best team, M & W longest drive, M & W closest to pin.

Session Descriptions

Peripheral Artery Disease Interventions: A deep dive on peripheral arterial disease, highlighting some of the newest techniques and challenging clinical scenarios of PAD therapies. The attendees will get an in-depth look at how to manage these patients both clinically and technically.

Bioinnovations and Engineering: Have you ever wondered, "why are stents/balloons/catheters/etc built this way?" There are many materials science and engineering considerations. This session will ask important questions about how and why medical devices are designed and how they can be better. A great primer for the practicing IR.

Industry Case-based Presentation: This session is an industry showcase that maximizes learning from peer experiences in a case-based presentation format.  Platinum level companies select a presenter to share a case that highlights successful outcomes, tips & tricks and innovative features of a device or imaging modality.

GI interventions: The "bread and butter" of any IR practice, the GI interventions session will cover diagnosis and treatment of a comprehensive array of GI disorders. Portal interventions, hemorrhoid and GI embolization, as well as cholangioscopy and biliary interventions will be reviewed and discussed.

Interventional Oncology: A comprehensive review of the latest IR treatment modalities for a variety of malignancies, this session will feature national experts sharing their clinical experiences along with high yield review of relevant data.

Rapid Fire Clinical Rundown: High yield, data-driven update on the latest and greatest disease treatment areas from leading IR journals as well as journals for other medical and surgical specialties.

The Pivot: This session features a panel of esteemed IRs all of whom have led impactful clinical careers in IR and then veered off into something else. What did they do? How did they do it? Most importantly, why did they do it. So many questions, and so little time.

Pain Interventions: This is one of the fastest growing service lines and most popular sessions at WAIS. This session will feature practical, applicable, data driven approaches to the patient with pain, focusing on the newest treatment techniques and approaches.

Venous thrombosis management: A comprehensive review of all things clot, from peripheral, pulmonary, mesenteric and beyond. Clinical management and technical challenges abound, as well as understanding the outcomes and what they mean for our patients.

APP Spotlight: Advanced Practice Providers play an increasingly central role in today's IR practice. This session is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of APP scope, practice, training, credentialing, and how best to integrate them into hospital- and office-based practices.

Tips & Tricks: This session will highlight experienced clinical operators who will share their best tried and true tips and tricks for dealing with challenging technical situations.

M&M Case Based Presentations: The M&M session is a perennial highlight for the annual meeting where practitioners share case complications which are discussed and dissected in great detail. This session allows attendees to learn from these experiences. It is often said that we as clinicians learn more from difficult situations than cases that go smoothly. This session allows all of us to maximize learning from several presenters.
